To me they are certainly one of the more exciting fish to target in CT, but definitely overshadowed in impressiveness as individual fish by pike and bowfin locally and other species elsewhere. I went out last day of F last week to try a repeat of last year and had no luck. Big pickerel --- all pickerel -- are great!<br />I had my first good sized one (2o") through the ice some years back (in my journal) and last Feb, on the river, some 17" inchers. <br />Because they are native predators with serious attitude and strength, I am perhaps almost secretly addicted to the idea of finding them--they are my favorite freshwater predator.
