Lots of Work, Little Reward

Today I went out to the small stream again. I spent a while in my normal area. I wasn't having to much luck, but I did get two nice wild Brown Trout, both on the Ausable Bomber.

Colors that always please.

In this big pool I saw what I thought was a decent Brown rising. However it ended up being the Salmon Parr in the picture bellow.

I decided at one point to go exploring. I wanted to try out some pools I hunted out over the winter. They were a royal pain in the ass to get too! I must have bushwhacked/waded two miles. I saw two wild trout and caught one stocker, along with tons of these:

I had expected, as is usually the case, that the further I went the chubs and browns would transition to smaller brown and then eventually brook trout. It appears this stream is the reverse.

I highly doubt there is much angling pressure in that stretch of water, SO WHERE ARE THE TROUT?

It looks good, its cold, and has plenty of food (including millions of big crayfish). Maybe I was just unlucky.

  1. Frustrating when reality defies logic. You must be getting your energy back, though, unless you inherited your grandfather C's stubborn gene.

  2. Something I've never done is fish the upstream section of this spring fed jewl of a stream.. Upstream as in, well... The other side of the place with all the graffiti (haha). I know what you mean about the trout being hard to find. It seems they've been more selective and spooky lately. FYI if you ever see a black Honda Civic Hatchback parked around the usual spots, it's me. -weightforward

    1. You're missing out! That is the best part.

  3. Glad you are feeling better or just ignoring the pain. That really looks like great water. It's nice to see a stream without knotweed growing all around.
    Fish on...

    1. Doesn't make bushwhacking any easier, we have our own invasive vines.
