Wild Trout in a Few Good Spots

Today I fished, hiked, and explored some new terrain. I fished four streams for wild trout, and had some success with both native brookies and a few wild browns. The streams I fished were gorgeous, the water clean, and the green of spring is showing more and more now. I hiked with two good friends and we had a good time. It was warm. The birds are out. SPRING IS HERE!!!!! Hendricksons and Blue Quills are here with it...

This is one of the best fish pictures I have ever taken.

Fat, fat, fat!

  1. I recognize one of those waters. There is so much to say about it all because it was such an amazing outing. I especially like that little waterfall on that small stream and one of those brookies is crazy dark. All of those brookies are pretty huge and fat. They are definitely on a feeding frenzy. I got out there today a got a few small brookies. No one was looking up though...did you have any luck with dries?

    1. Thank you.
It was a gorgeous day! Unfortunately I lost the big fish of the day, a solid 12 incher. the first was on a Bomber, one also took a March Brown.

    2. Assuming the 12 was a native...that's crazy! I guess your luck with dries had to do with the sun warming everything up. In RI it was cold and cloudy today.

    3. Oh it was. Not one stocker in the stream I was fishing.

  2. Haaahahaha wow, a couple of those fish are comically plump.

I especially love that skinnier stream that tumbles through the larger rocks.

    1. They were chubby! Often in the spring they overfeed. What you don't see in that photo is the busy road 50 feet to the right. Still a favorite spot of mine.

  4. Very nice, I see you like the Bomber too! Great shot of the brookie in the water, you must have had a polarized filter or a really good angle so that glare wasn't a problem, kudos! Haven't seen any Hendricksons myself yet but should be waiting in the wings!

It's a killer fly. The angle was as good as it gets.

Absolute beautiful streams with some colorful brook trout. All the stream looked easy access; what length fly rod do you use on these type streams? Thanks for sharing

Some stretches are. Others are not and require my little 6 1/2 footer.
