Streamer Year So Far....

It hasn't been bad. The Salmon has been fishing really well with Circus Peanuts and smaller Barely Legals. I'm still waiting to nail into a really big brown. So far the best fish on articulated streamers this year have been rainbows. A few of my biggest brookies have also come out for big meat flies. It has been exciting, though not really spectacular. For that I'm waiting for some good nights later this month. The most productive methods this spring have been pocket picking with a twitched fly and swinging deep through the big pools. Here are some highlights from the streamer trips so far this year.

    1. Thank you.
Big fish eat big stuff! They eat little stuff to, but I always say the best way to catch a trophy trout is to fish big flies when and where they are likely to eat. It's often a game of luck, but you gotta do what you gotta do!

  2. Amazing how fish can eat things that feel so large. I'd be willing to bet you have seen this, but man, it always made me laugh to catch a bass or pike etc that clearly had a huge sunfish in the belly or to catch a trout and see the tail fin of a fish sticking out it's throat!

Crazy how big a "thing" a fish will eat. If it can fit in the mouth, even partially, they can and will eat it!

    1. Yup! Just look at the second picture... that's not my fly! In fact that little shiner was bigger than the fly that same fish took! I once caught a bass with a bird's tail sticking out of it's throat.

  4. The big streamers you chuck are pretty crazy, but if it ain't broke don't fix it! You have been pulling some big ones out of the salmon!

For this part of the country: yeah, less than usual. Go out to Arkansas and it's the name of the game!
