I fished a lot with dries and soft hackles for rainbows this morning. I caught a lot of them! The biggest was about 14 inches, but most were less than 10 inches in length. For a 6'6" three weight that is still plenty of a battle! When the incoming front put the fish down I went on to different activities.
I spent a little while wandering around some small streams that hold native brook trout. I found a pair of spawning brookies in the middle of the pool bellow, but there were so many leaves in this stream that spotting fish was almost impossible. The other stream was a little clearer and I saw a lot of char in the pools. Hopefully rain tonight will blow the leaves out of these streams and allow me to catch a couple of their residents this week.
Yup, that's a bunch of leaves. Great pictures and beautiful water.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I I hate about fall in CT.
DeleteThanks!
Nice bows and beautiful colors. Great to see them spawning, but hopefully they hold off a few more days until after we fish next Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there will be some activity to watch, particularly in the stream we are going to.... plus the rain's going to blow out the leaves!

ReplyDeleteGood Stuff there RM!! Looks like you had a buddy there fishing also!!! The scenic shots are gorgeous!!
Thanks!
DeleteYup. I out-fished him this time though!
That last rainbow photo is beautiful. A little rain today may help, but I think the brookies mission will be OK.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
DeleteThey use the leaves to their advantage this time of year.
Great trip and your photos are fantastic! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteTie, fish, write and photo on...
Thanks.
DeleteColors are gorgeous, and it's always instructive when you share your angler's thought process with the photos!

Beautiful place with great colors and the fish is amazing. Where is this corner of heaven?
ReplyDeleteThanks,

Is that a native american arrowhead in the last picture??
ReplyDeleteProbably not, just a stone partially exposed in the sand. Every now and then I come across one though.
