The Trout Slam with BRK TRT

This morning Alan Petrucci and I visited my favorite brook trout stream. It is another gorgeous day in the upper 50's/low 60's and the small brook trout, of which there are many, were rising. I caught a couple on small dry flies, but for me the Crazy Shrimp was the hot fly, It took a number of stunning but small native brookies.

The brookies didn't really show off today, I normally catch one or two in the 7 to 8 inch range here. Today they were all tiny. But that's fine, they were pretty as can be.

These pools and riffles have trout in them. The people that live around this stream probably don't even know it. It is a perfect and healthy brook trout stream.

After leaving the brook trout stream we went to some wild brown trout water. The DEEP says they don't stock this water any more, but they must because it was loaded with stockers today. I have fished it often and never caught or seen a stocker. These rainbows and browns were all over an Ausable Ugly.

This little brown completed my trout slam.

On my way back upstream to meet Alan to head home I passed a farm pond. I spotted a couple of big bluegills, then a chunky largemouth. I couldn't resist. I twitched the Ugly in its face and SLURP! After a significant battle a solid December Largemouth came to hand.

I always enjoy fishing with friends, it was a great day for it. Thanks, Alan!

    1. Thanks,
I enjoy catching all three of CT's no hybrid trouts in one trip, but would prefer if they were all wild...

  5. Rowan, it was a pleasure fishing with you today. That stream needs to be revisited for I know there will be a biggie in its confines. We just need to calm down those juvies.

    1. Thanks,
Indeed, maybe over the winter the little ones will calm down so that we can get a shot at the big ones.

  6. That was beautiful water. I could just feel myself being there. A well rounded bunch of catches for a days fishing. Thanks for the adventure!

    1. Thanks,
I do consider myself a multi species fisherman, so any day I catch 4 or more species is a good one!

  8. Glad you found fish rising! I fished on Sunday and thought maybe I'd be able to get some dry fly action, but didn't see any rises. I opted for the pinky which only yielded one, but I saw fresh prints of someone who had just fished before me that day, which probably didn't help. I still can't get over the red tails on those brookies in the special stream, and that other stream looks like nice water until the state messed it up. Didn't know they stocked browns that small.

I never see that on the small streams I fish most often, I'm the only footprint maker here!
