A Beautiful Brown

I realized while I was out today that I had not caught a brown yet in 2016. I wasn't really out for fishing, more for hiking, but I had the 3 wgt. and a box of Ausable Uglies and bead head Flymphs. I only fished two pools on my home water, but I hooked one in each. The first threw the hook, the second did not which was great because it was decent sized for the stream and ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! What a brown, and for the first one of the year? Wow. I love it. This fish took the ugly on a downstream drift and fought well considering the 33 degree water temp. Awesome!

    1. Yeah, I'd say it's my third prettiest brown I've every caught.

  3. That is indeed a beautiful brown trout. That is a beautiful stream as well. You're lucky to have that for a "home stream" which I trust means is close to where you live. Well done.

    1. It was a pretty fish, and good, but a shadow of the fish this stream used to have.

  6. Its coming back... further up above where the big gravel bed is in a little run I caught a brown of similar size that was almost pistachio green. Give it time. -Weightforward

    1. I think the fish that held over the drought in the deep pools are finally returning to their normal lies.

  7. Look at the rings and spotting on that one! How did a brown trout get the spots of a Brookie? Very nice catch, well photographed, too.

    1. You may be surprised... I love brookies but wild browns have such a varied color pattern.
