The forecasters say it will warm up on Wednesday and stay warm through the weekend, and as long as it stays hospitable on Saturday I plan to make the long trip to a watershed that is supposed to hold brook trout but that I have yet to explore. I've been furiously refilling my small stream box, and if everything goes right I should get a few on dries. I have tied 8 new Ausable Bombers, 5 Usuals, 6 parachutes Adams, and a bunch of Bivisibles and Palmers. For the lazy big brookies, I tied Pinkies, Gartside Sparrows (Thanks to Kirk and his large brooky), and Crazy Shrimp.
If you think my Usual looks a bit funky, that's because I used caribou body hair in place of hair's foot fur for the wing. I find it takes longer to saturate in faster moving water.
ReplyDeleteGood Looking flies you have tied there RM!!! I am sure when you put em to the test this weekend they will produce for you!!!
Thanks for the confidence, I am very hopeful.
DeleteAwesome looking ties! Hope it stay's warmish and you get a chance to soak em!

Thanks,
DeleteThe next 5 days look pretty good considering it's January, I should have plenty of time on the water.
Great ties. I'd say you are ready to hit that watershed. I hope it does warm up! Seven degrees this morning and I'm not liking it!!!
ReplyDeleteTie, fish, write and photo on...
Thank you.
DeleteIt needs to be cold at some point during the year or everything gets messed up for a little while.
Nice work Rowan! Gonna borrow your floss pinkie idea. Hopefully things will warm up soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
DeleteI hope it works for you!
Great ties, RM. It looks like your fly box is well stocked for milder days spent on the water.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and probably for some harsh days on the water too
