Home Water, Post Blow Out

I went to my home water today for two main reasons. I wanted to see how the ice blow out effected it, and I wanted to practice my shortline nymphing with the 10 footer. It's a good thing those were my goals and that I wasn't expecting to catch anything, because this was the second time in my life that I got skunked on this stream. I honestly don't care, the conditions were pretty shitty. The first pool I fished was lined by stacked up shelf ice, which was calving like a glacier. Right when I got there a chunk the size of a car slid off the bank and made a tsunami that knocked more ice off the opposite bank. That was just awesome. It's also amazing to see where I ice ends up after a blow out. Today there were sheets in the saplings long the edges of the stream and a few that were thrown back into the woods, but last year with the month long super cold spell the blowup was REALLY impressive. I found a slabs of up to 400 lbs in the woods 200 feet from the stream with no apparent disturbance of the leaf litter. The trees, however, showed the damage: huge gashes and torn branches were frequents but some slabs had even pushed over the younger trees. Nature is just crazy.

    1. Thanks,
It is uncommon during years with normal ice, but last year there was ridiculous thick shelf ice.
