A Forgotten Stream

There is a little creek in central CT. One time four years ago I crossed over it on my way to another stream. I thought to myself "I wonder if there are brookies in there" but I never got back there. Last year I was hiking through the area in the fall and I crossed over this stream and saw a fish scramble fr cover. I knew for sure what it was right away, yet I never decided to come back. Over the winter I was looking at my maps and I gazed over the area where that stream was. There was no blue line there. It was as though the stream did not exist. No name, no trails around it, no easy access. Today I decided to visit this stream to see if I could catch any of it's fish. I was sure as I pushed through the brush trying to get to the stream that the fish i would find would be ones that had never seen anything with a hook in it.

It didn't take me that long to  catch a beautiful wild brookie, a genetic progeny of fish that have lived in this forgotten stream since the last ice age. I caught a few on a Parachute Adams and Ausable Bomber.

There were numerous fish bellow each of this creeks frequent waterfalls. Under one a very sizable creature came up for the Bomber. I set the hook and it began to pull hard. I got a good look at it. It was about a 7 inch fish, for a stream this size that is a giant. I know for sure I will not forget that. I will be back to catch that fish soon.
