The After Shock of a Big Fish
I love catching big fish, and although a 24 to 28 pound carp is not really a once in a lifetime fish or anything like that, it is a rare catch in my local waters especially for a fly rodder. Every time I catch a big fish like that, a 20 inch trout, a big brooky, a 8 lb bass, I get excited. I send photos to lots of my fishing friends, brag about it at school, and just act like a fishing maniac does when they are excited about a great outing. I also tend to spend a lot of time just staring at photos. Sometimes I smile, occasionally I break into a stupid boyish laugh. The first 20 inch brown I ever caught had me laid out for a month. The Atlantic salmon gave me some of the best day dreams I have ever had, though it distracted me from my school work for a few weeks. The carp I got yesterday is the same kind of thing. I fished today but it wasn't all that much of an outing, some little bluegills and no sign of the rudd I was looking for. So here's a bit more of that big carp:

ReplyDeleteGreat video, and congrats on landing the beast, but I have tell you that is one ugly fish!! thanks for sharing
Thanks,
DeleteI think they are beautiful animals in their own right. The color and sheen of their scales is certainly a treat.
Yeaaaa!!! You will be day dreaming about that one for a while. It will not be the last one you catch. Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteTie, fish, write and photo on...
I know that. I catch at least a couple of carp this size or bigger each year.
DeleteAwesome man. Poor Bill doesn't have to affection for ugly fish...that are so beautiful to catch. He gives me a hard time too!
ReplyDeleteHah! Bill is a great fisherman, and there are a lot of great fisherman that find carp a pretty ugly fish... he sure gives bluegills the respect they are due!
DeleteGreat catch of that huge carp on the fly rod, RM. There is just something about fishing that takes ahold of us if one really loves it. I caught a 4# rainbow a couple of weeks ago, and I harken back on catching it often. Caught its somewhat smaller cousin two nights ago. Nothing like the sport we love, and the BEST part is you can let them go to catch again. Regards, Sam
ReplyDeleteI'd try to elaborate but you put it pretty eloquently.
DeleteI can see Kirk drooling.
ReplyDeleteBig fish.
I'm pretty sure he has yet to catch one this year so I'm sure he is!
