Freestones and Biting Insects

On Monday we fished a pretty little freestone stream that BRK TRT told me about. We weren't really sure what to expect because it is known mostly as a spawning place for big lake run fish. I cast a foam butt caddis on the first pool I came to, and it was smacked by a decent wild brookie. We were in business!

We both caught a good number of brookies, some small, some decent, all beautiful. Towards the end of our fishing my dad caught a really nice male next to a fallen tree on a Parmachenee Wulff

In the evening we went back to the spot on the Rangeley that had treated us well the previous day and found it had been overrun by fallfish... and billions of no-seeums and mosquitoes! We caught a few fallfish, one brookie, and a couple little shad before having to get the hell out of there.

  1. Nice freestone and the natives are beauties. Bugs, uuuuugh. They can slow a good fishing trip to a stop if they are biters.
Tie, fish, write and photo on...

  2. Rowan how nice it is to see my home away from home waters. Many hours have been logged on that stream. In that 1st pic I took a 17" wild brook trout in late July on a 9/3 streamer.

Did you walk downstream to the large pool?

    1. Wow! Stream run fish in there, makes sense that a few would be big. We went a short ways down, through most of those pools that were improved with stumps and boulders. We didn't get as far down as the pond though.
