Cotton Candy Mondo Perch

Fish like cotton candy. However, just like this raccoon, they have a slight problem:

So fish must get their fill of cotton candy in the form of bucktail and marabou. This is the only possible explanation for the effectiveness of "cotton candy" fly patterns like the cotton candy Great Lakes Deceiver, or the cotton candy Clouser Minnow. The latter is the pattern I used to get some seriously chunky yellow perch today. The bite was not long lasted, but before it ended I was able to get into two yellows that were just under a pound and plenty just under the half pound mark.

The most enjoyable part of catching a whole bunch of good fish out of some small farm ponds this time of year is that many fly fisherman don't think they could. Fish when you can.
