Infrequent Occurrence

It was almost t-shirt weather on Friday. Almost. It will be t-shirt weather on Wednesday. Anyway, it was warm yesterday and I felt like paying my home river a visit. Fishing can be tricky there in late winter especially when the flows are up, which they were. Very few fish that see your fly are going to be in the mood to eat. It's all a matter of methodically covering water and getting flies in front of as many trout as possible. Eventually one will eat. On this outing it took me a pretty remarkably long time to catch the first fish. I was a bit startled when I did because it was very obviously a fish I had caught before, and not recently. In fact it has been more than a year. Aside from the unique coloration and spotting there is the obvious dorsal fin injury. He is an extra two inches longer now. I love repeat catches and I can't wait to catch this one again when he is 16 inches long.

Unsurprisingly it was not a fast and furious bite after the first fish either. I caught probably a half a dozen. The average size was pretty good. I can't wait for the paraleps and hendricksons here, it is going to be an incredible spring  on my favorite stream in the world.

Good looking fish. It is also nice to see C & R works. Yes it will be t-shirt weather on Weds. I can't wait. Got one myself on local TMA this week!!! All this snow was cool the water down as it melts.

    1. If catch and release didn't work there wouldn't be many trout left in the Northeast!

  3. How special to catch an old acquaintance. Hope you will see him again. I'm sure next time he's hooked that he'll be hoping it's you.

    1. In reality, the more times I catch a fish the more likely it is that I will be it's cause of death.
