Feather Wing Streamers and Moronidea

Though that last word looks like a fish family that is stupid, that is the name that encompasses striped bass, white bass, and white perch. Of these three species, I have caught white perch an stripers. And only a few of them were the big saltwater kind, leaving Morone americana the majority of my catch. White perch aren't all that big but they are a heck of a lot of fun on light fly tackle.

Last here I had all but quit fishing lakes and ponds by November. And the times I did go I didn't catch a lot. This year I am determined to catch bass, perch, pickerel, and bluegills as far into the fall and winter was possible, and I'm off to a good start! I went to the lake today and decided to use a technique I don't often use there: I put a feather wing streamer on 5x and used my 3 wgt. I caught a crap load of white perch, some yellow perch, a largemouth, and a big bluegill. The hot spot was at the mouth of a tributary. I haven't used my 3 wgt for perch yet and boy was I missing out! Tape your tackle right and a chunky white perch actually will take some line!

    1. Thanks,
The bluegill spawn... thanks for reminding how long it is until I can enjoy that again! I didn't fish the spawn quite so much this year.
