They Don't All Need to be Big

I love catching big fish, but I also love catching wild, pristine, beautiful fish out of extremely clean and wonderful streams. That is why brook trout are and always will be my favorite fish. I don't need to go out and catch big ones either. Like today, I am more than satisfied with a short outing to my pet brookie stream only 5 minutes from my house. I don't know if someone fished it before I did or if a few otters had come through before me, but I didn't get very many. I got two very dark little ones on a Hare and Grizzly SH and one larger light colored one on a Royal Stimulator. Spring is really popping now, but this stream is extremely low for the time of year. Fortunately even more rain is in the forecast, and that should bring the streams back up so that the don't just top off at average then drop back to a low level.

  1. I love those dark brookies. And the violets that grace the stream are indeed pleasant.
    Nicely done.

    1. Thank you,
These guys seem to start changing color when their is some plant growth in the water, turning into this beautiful dark form.

  2. Love that stream! You caught some nice wilds. Let's fish that stream in June.
I think you had some rain today.
Tie, fish, write and photo on...

    1. Probably not, it is only about a 20 foot stretch of water.

    1. I've never caught an ugly wild brookie, but these dark ones sure do stand out!
