Small Stream Bass

This morning I went back to the stream where I had found some perch last week hoping that more had come up during the warm weather. What I discovered instead was that the dam that controls the flow of this stream was no longer releasing water, everything was just coming over the top. So, there wasn't much flow. The place looked like this:

All I could think looking around was "this isn't going to go too well". But I could see some fish moving around so I made a few casts with McTage's Trouser Worm... and I caught a beautifully colored and decent sized largemouth!

And that was the only fish of the day, but really all I needed. Fun little outing. Tomorrow, I'm chasing carp, some ponds that have a pile of commons and one that I recently learned has a hanful of absolutely massive grass carp. Fingers crossed I'll get a 50-60 lb grasser.

Great largemouth coming from a small water area; I would suspect it put up quite a fight. thanks for sharing

    1. Not so much, but of course the water temperature was just barely 40 degrees.

  2. Thats an amazing difference in the stream! Wow! The LMB is a pretty one for sure. Almost looks like a spotted bass with the way it's thoroughly marked up.

    1. Typical though. The dam above lets out water dependent on lake levels which often take a while to change in accordance to rain or snow. It can be raging one day and then fry as a bone the next.

  3. WOW, they put out just enough water to keep the crabs happy. Just as you said, not good. Beauty of a bass to be in that stream. Good luck on the Carp!

    1. Not good for my fishing, but perfectly normal for that place. It happens many times a year.
