Hell or High Water

A fisherman is someone who goes fishing no matter what....

Time, weather, water level...
Doesn't matter to me. If I think there even the smallest hope or prayer of landing a fish I will be there. Today the Salmon River rose a full foot while I was there. There were leaves and debris floating downstream. And yet I was there with a sink tip line and a four foot leader and a box of articulated streamers. There wasn't a soul out besides me. The rain kept falling and I stood in the river casting streamers and catching trout.

There were four flies that worked: a Great Lakes Deceiver, an articulated version of Kris Keller's Late Night with Wanda, an articulated Wedding Veil, and the Drunk & Disorderly. All very big, fishy flies. I didn't catch any really big fish. You'd be surprised to see how small of  trout will smash a five inch long streamer.

By the time I got home the USGS gage at Leeseville Dam showed over 1,200 cfs. Don't just fish when the conditions are perfect. Fish when you can.
