Home!

It has been months since I last fished my home stream. I just had to go out to see how it's wild browns and brookies had fared the frigid winter of 2015. The breaking ice and flood water had resulted in some significant changes in the stream bed. Whole boulders of at least 100lbs. had traveled significant distances. Logs went even farther. The log I had to stand on to gain access to a good pool last year was fifty feet downstream, and the pool was now wide open. Lucky for me, but not so lucky for the gorgeous wild browns that live in it!
I threw stimulators around for a little while, and actually caught some nice big salmon smolts, just about ready for their long and perilous trip south. It took me a while to get the first brown, but boy was I glad to see him. I ended up getting three. The last was the best. It hit the nymph in a deep riffle, a solid bar of gold that jumped and ran like any wild brown should. God was I glad to be back!

    1. Thank you, I truly am lucky in that regard. You must not forget that you too have excellent waters, though they contain vastly different species.

  4. The power of the ice is amazing! Looks like you had a solid day out there getting some dry fly action and that last one was a prize. Nice going!
