First of the day. |

Smallmouth bass in the corner pocket. |
I spent most of the afternoon yesterday throwing big streamers, or rather one big streamer: an articulated pattern called "Maximun Cowbell". The eyes are inverted and the hooks ride point up, and this was a trip to test how well the fly would hook trout. It worked very well in fact. The first trout followed the fly out of the pool, and took mere feet from me. I set and the fish went back to the hole and then jumped. It has clearly been in the river for a while. A few more rainbows and some brookies came to hand over the course of a few hours, and the rainbows fought brilliantly.
Beautiful fish. Throwing streamers for anything is a sure way to a great time.
ReplyDeleteI concur.
DeleteThat pattern works very well. The rainbows are fantastic. Your ties in that beautiful water can't fail.
ReplyDeleteTie, fish, write and photo on...
Thank you,
DeleteThe thing you don't often read about here are the 20 patterns that failed before getting to the right point. A successful streamer is the result of trial and error.
Beautiful Rainbows, so glad they met up with a fisherman who believes in release. Keep enjoying nature, especially since we get to enjoy it through you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, though these stocked fish are a little distant from nature.
DeleteThe salmon looks like it's in great shape! Nice bows.
ReplyDeleteIt's at about the level I prefer it this time of year, although a little rain won't hurt it. But it looks like we're about to get a lot of rain.
