Two Days of Panfish and Bass

Yesterday I went to the bell pond and a large quantity of ducks were spooking the carp, so I went for plan B. Usually I start fishing the shoreline structure for bass and panfish in April, but this year I've got a jump on it! Fishing the Ausable Ugly around sticks and boulders I caught a number of small pumpkinseeds, but I couldn't find any big crappies or 'gills.

Today I hit Sunset Pond. I caught the first bass of the year, not a monster but a beautiful fish for sure. I also caught numerous bluegills and a few pumpkinseeds on various flies. The last fish was a nice crappie.

Turtles were out in force today, and the water was quite warm. Spring is early this year, and time will tell if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

I returned later in the evening with only the rod rigged with a foam ant, no camera or other flies. I caught a ton of big bluegills and pumpkinseeds. It was marvelous.

    1. Thanks,
You can keep welcoming it but I'm going to continue worrying about the repercussions of of a very warm March and low water levels.

    1. Thanks,
Pumpkinseeds are very similar to bluegills, but often dramatically more colorful.
