Good Friends, Salt Water, and a Shark

Today I was with a good group of people, the group I have been playing music with for the last three years, and in many cases longer. Good friends, good food, and great weather. What could improve it? Some flats and beach fishing with the fly! How to improve it even more? Give me a shot at a small but very hungry shark. And by small I mean really small; this shark, I think it was a blue, was only about 24 inches long. But that was enough fish to make the reel sing after it ate my Clouser. It even jumped twice! But as I got it towards me the inevitable happened, and the micro jaws bit through the 8 lb tippet. Frankly, I have no experience with handing sharks and I'm almost glad I didn't have to deal with that. I just wish I had taken a picture of it in the water. Anyway, I'm counting that. I have caught a shark on the fly. The rest of the fishing was limited to watching bluefish busting bait WAY out of range. But that's alright, the day didn't need any improving.

  1. Glad you had a good day with friends. I have caught sharks in the surf and yes they will chomp a finger or arm if they have the chance. They can pass by my baits anytime.
