Shad Bake and Bass Yesterday

The Essex Rotary Club held it's shad bake. Although I am a fisherman I never liked the taste of fish. Therefore it was not the eating of the shad that enthused me about the bake, but rather the tradition and culture that surrounds it. That is something I hope to delve into in my book.

In the evening I went back to the pond to fish with Mr. Blue Here. He caught some bluegills in the shallow weed edges While I worked the drop offs for largemouth. The Ausable Ugly and a crazy topwater bug thing given to me by Mark Steiner both caught some nice fish. The Ugly also got eaten by a snapping turtle, and using a secret method I both got my fly back and let the turtle go on with it's day.

  1. Can't believe you caught a snapping turtle (on the fly nonetheless)! I guess it must be a regular occurrence for you since you have a "secret method" of fly removal.

  2. Glad you enjoyed your outing. In second pix, is that a great blue heron wading at center back in all that greenery and reflected greenery?
