Today was one hell of an adventure. I made my way out of my home region around 1:30. My destination: a top secret stream in the East of the state I call home. My goal was to fish for sea run brown trout and shad with flies. I reached my destination, the mouth of a small stream. The tide was receding. I took a few casts before noticing a very big carp. I put down the 3 weight and picked up the eight. This was my first ever experience with an estuary carp. I had heard of them, but never seen one. I tied on an Ausable Ugly and proceeded to miss five takes from this same fish. It was on the sixth that I hooked her. This fish was obese. I have never seen such a fat carp. It tops my biggest fish list by about 10 lbs! Since the fish's mobility was extremely hampered by it's massive size, The fight was not one to write home about. But that doesn't matter. Look at this beast!!!!
Sexy! ... what I'll do for a giant carp on the fly! |
Hat tip to you! That is a carp on steroids.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteNice going on the sea run brown.
ReplyDeleteThank you. They certainly are a difficult fish to find.
DeleteWhat a beast! Awesome job
ReplyDeleteShe sure is!
DeleteWell done!
ReplyDeleteThan you!
DeleteThat was a well fed carp. Yep, we know to what extent you will go to catch a fish, sexy, only to dedicated fishermen.
ReplyDeleteGlad you caught a brown. Great photo of you and the carp. Get a BIG print and hang it on the wall.
Tie, fish, write and photo on...
Thank you.
DeleteI don't know what lengths I will go to until I reach that point.
I didn't know carp went out to estuaries that's crazy (and a little worrisome because they probably are outcompeting native species)! That thing is morbidly obese congrats! And also glad you finally got a sea run brown. I'm sure you will get some pictures of the next one you catch in the future. Surprised he hit a nymph because usually sea run fish (salters at least) prefer streamers, but whatever works!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
DeleteCarp have their place. In water that big they don't compete that much.
Morbidly obese congrats? That's a combination of words I never thought I would see.
