The time has come for all warm water species to be watchable. I went out today for four things. First, carp. They were in tight to shore tailing. I had the perfect opportunity for a multi carp day, but the sun came out and the wind picked up almost immediately and screwed it up. I had other options. Bass are in the shallows spawning. In this pond they often cruise around feeding in the middle of the day, and it was standing on a rock that I spotted a very nice one. The cast was perfect and I hooked her. A few good jumps and a run later I was holding a nice female largemouth with clear battle scars.
Next, I changed to the three weight and a prince nymph and fished a bluegill bed patch for all it's worth, which happened to be 13 fish. The color variations were interesting!

A pair of pumpkinseed on the bed. |
Finally, same rod but a clouser minnow for walleye and perch:
What a great time of year!

ReplyDeleteI feel sort of left out reading all these blogs showing big bluegills and bass. I am still trying to navigate through a fertilized lake to land some bluegills. Congrats on a great outing
Thank you.
DeleteYou will get a chance eventually, and when you do I know you'll make the best of it. You are a bluegill master!
