My dad needed to fish this evening. I needed to fish this evening. So we went fishing.
We chose a good stretch of the Salmon River. We had it mostly to ourselves. I used articulated streamers, of course, and Dad used dries. He caught two, getting good fights out of both. I caught three and fouled one. The one that was fouled was a very wild looking little rainbow. The others were a small brooky, a big brooky, and a slob of a brown. It was refreshing. Exactly what I need out of a weekday evening.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous waters you and your Dad were fishing, and the trout looked as if they hadn't missed any meals, is this a tailrace coming from a lake or a natural flowing river? Thanks for sharing
Thank you,
DeleteIt is a particularly beautiful river. It's flow is largely natural with one dam remaining far downstream, which means it warms up a lot in the summer.
Nice trip with good fish. The season keeps getting better. That tie looks tasty.
ReplyDeleteTie, fish, write and photo on...
It is a good season, but extremely low water levels are making things difficult and possibly dangerous here right now.
DeleteRM,
ReplyDeleteCould you describe how you fish your streamers in general?
Thanks,

I very my presentation greatly. In deeper runs I would cast down and across and let it swing with little twitches. It slow pools I cast down and stripped quickly back up, with various changes in speed. In pocket water I cast up or across and gave quick jerks. The last was the most effective on this particular evening.
