One for the Rainbow Lady

I got in a short session last night. I threw some big flies around in a local pond for bass, pickerel, or walleye. There was one very cool moment, and that is the only thing I'll describe here.

I was using the dear hair headed pattern I designed called the Rainbow Lady, and on one cast I decided to strip it in quickly. When It got close to the shore a big dark form materialized behind it. I gave one short strip. The shape, which had come into focus now as a nice largemouth, finned forward a bit and opened and closed it's mouth. I let the fly sink. As it went down, the materials moved ever so delicately That did the trick. With one quick Move the fish was on and eventually at hand.

  2. That is a great fish! I love the detailed play by play. Sometimes those little tricks make the difference between catching or not catching a good fish.

  3. Agree with David here, nice work and a nice Bass. One is all it takes to make an angler happy when it turns out to be a nice one!

  4. That is a hog! Congrats man! Quality over quantity at its finest right there. Is the rainbow lady tough to cast with the deer hair?

    1. I've caught as many as ten that size in that pond before, really it's an average bass. The take was the quality part!
With an 8 wgt. throwing the rainbow lady isn't all that difficult.
