Farm Pond

One of my favorite places to fish are farm ponds. They are such an interesting ecosystem, and have a variety of fish. Today the targets were largemouth bass and bluegill. The first method I used was a 1/4 ounce pumpkin green, brown, and red sparkled jig with a brush-hog trailer. The particular pond I was fishing is fed by springs, so the water temperature is already in the 40's and the fish are getting into the shallows. I chucked the jig onto shore and pulled it lightly into the water. In one such presentation, I got back more slack then usual and knew a fish had hit. I picked up the slack and plucked the line to seal the deal. The bass took off and I drove the hook home. After quite a tussle I had my first decent bass of the year at hand.

With my craving for a fat fish on heavy tackle provided for, I picked up my fly rod with a black bead eyed leach to chase big bluegills. They were eating, and quite a few took the leach.

I think he is stalking me....
