Home Water Nirvana

This morning was just gorgeous. I got on my home stream before the sun did and was immediately into fish. The first was a brooky, well proportioned and the first out of there in 2015.
Thirty Fish Bend

For a long while the only fish I caught were juvenile browns, fresh blood that in a few years will be bigger and very beautiful. The streamside undergrowth was showing much color under the dew today, and the air smelled clean. Veeries sand in the laurels, adding to the music of the water.

Eventually I got into some bigger wild brown trout. The first had a fantastic golden iridescence.

Emperor's Pool

The best bit of dry fly fishing happened where it almost always does, a pool named the Magic Pool. There always seem to be some nice wild trout rising there.

Sea Bound Leaper

The best fighter of the day. Jumped 4 times and did some strong runs.

Eventually, far upstream, I began to run into some more native brook trout. Following the brooky trail I ended up catching the last fish of the day in a gorgeous little tributary. It is so small it doesn't even have a name!

Have a good week everybody! Tight lines.

    1. Thank you. It hold cold clean water in enough quantity for there to be big fish in there!

  2. A great trip. The water and bottom are so perfect. These brookies have it made. You should name the tributary. Thanks for the great walk-about.

    1. Ah, so you got a chance to go to my stretch... I hope you got some nice ones. That cabin isn't on state land. There is a stretch of more than a mile where there is private land on the East side of the river.

  4. Awesome post! Congrats on that brookie he is huge and gorgeous! I noticed a lot of brookies in your stream are pretty dark...probably because of the dark rocks. You haven't been pulling out too many brookies lately from your home water, but it seems like they made a nice return. I believe that magic pool was the one where I got my brown on a dry...could be wrong though. Also, that salmon is really cool, and it really resembles a brown! Glad you finished how you started with brookies on that beautiful little trib.

    1. Thank you! They do have unique coloration. Last year was not a brooky year. It looks like this year might be though!
