Cookie Cutter Carp

I walked shoreline this morning instead of kayaking, mostly to save energy for later (Panfish post inbound) I Caught the first carp I saw. It was tailing strongly then began to move back towards deep water. I put the fly in front of it and when the leader began to twitch I set the hook. There was no backing this time, but it was a mighty long battle.

The next carp I saw was tailing and kept right on going for a while. I put the fly on his nose and he ate. This one dumped into the backing without hesitation. When I got him close he gave me a hard time trying to get into a dock. I won. This was another nice fish, same size as the previous and just as beautiful. It also fought strongly to get out of my grip, getting me and all my gear splattered in the process. Nothing was harmed and soon the fish was on his way home

As you can see he didn't like having his picture taken.

  1. WOW, a great morning. I would say you have that pattern perfected. Nice photos! Thanks for the trip along the shore line.

    1. It's getting there. I don't think I'll ever be able to catch every feeding carp I spot though.
