If The Fishing Isn't an Adventure, Make One

Sometimes the fishing is just no good. Today on a usually productive pond I just couldn't get into fish. So I went for an adventure. At heart I am still a little kid, so I love climbing through boulder fields looking for snakes and frogs. And that's just what I did.

This particular area is perfect habitat for timber rattlesnakes, and some landmarks in this part of the state are actually named "rattlesnake". I didn't see any today, but their food- mice, wood frogs, and toads- was out in force.

Tomorrow is the last day of my summer vacation, and I'm planning a special trip. So stay tuned!

  1. Have you seen Timber's before RM? I have not, though I know a few spots where they are recorded to live, and many I enjoy that, as you noted, are named for them. I've seen a few copperheads though - in areas where "they no longer live" I know those big venomous snakes are hyper rare, and likely becoming more rare... but they are really cool - it's neat to know there are a few things that wild that live in our woods.

For several years when I archery hunted in SW CT, there were really "scree" covered or tumbled boulder covered slopes that I traversed, and man... They looked so much like spots I could see a TimberRatler. Always made me nervous during the early season when it could still be 75-80 for a high temp.

Hope the fun day was a fun day on the adventure pre school.

    1. Thanks,
I have only ever had the good fortune of seeing one. It was amazing. I have seen some copperheads too, but on the west side of the river.

  2. Yep, sometimes you just have to make something else happen. Can't wait to see what you came up with today!
Tie, fish, write and photo on...
