Pipe Residents, Dead Batteries, and Brook Trout
Guess where I caught this guy? Inside of that culvert! There's not much water in there, but just enough to hold a good smallmouth. He gave himself away by darting out to grab a bait fish. I skipped a cast into the tube and it took right away, giving the three weight a work out. There were a couple worrisome moments.
After landing a few bass, pickerel, and assorted panfish at the lake, I went mountain biking. I did not intend on finding a fishing spot, but two miles in I did. A small man made pool, holding a good amount of cold water, on a small stream I had rejected as one that could hold brookies while examining all those in my area a few years ago. Guess who was wrong? I caught four wild brook trout out of that pool, and there were plenty more there. The fourth was big and gorgeous, but when I went to take a picture the camera batteries died. That's OK, it's a private memory now, one I will replay over and over. What an evening.
