Now, there are times when even Brook Trout seem to be as hard to catch as the Browns of the Letort. Once I finally learned the right approaches, I could catch fish almost anytime, anywhere they lived. But lately the have been a pain. Particularly, Thanksgiving. So I went back to that stream to figure them out. And I did. They would only take if the fly as a nymph, and only if it was dead drifted within inches of the bottom. Why? Partly the cold, but I nailed them on top all through last winter in this stream. Who knows. I caught a few, and that made me very pleased.
Figuring it out is just part of the joy for catching fish, you always find the solution. They are nice little guys from a great stream. The tying hair was saved.

I'd like to think I do, but there are still some hatches and fish that baffle me.
