Ice Fishen' The Pond

I have never been an ice fisherman, but for kicks I rigged up to get some blue gills and hit the local water hole with a friend. We don't have an auger, but I have learned a small ax can be used lightly to produce the sane result. We started by punching six hole to cover different types of water. Some were shallow, some were deep, no matter what we would be on top of some fish in a pond this small. Then we started jigging. After a few hours we determined that there were to be no fish caught, the reason being that the ice was clear enough clearing the snow and allowing the sun into the water had scared off the fish. Next time!

A hole just big enough for a sunny and my unorthodox 3 ft rod.

At least it was bright.
