I realized while I was out today that I had not caught a brown yet in 2016. I wasn't really out for fishing, more for hiking, but I had the 3 wgt. and a box of Ausable Uglies and bead head Flymphs. I only fished two pools on my home water, but I hooked one in each. The first threw the hook, the second did not which was great because it was decent sized for the stream and ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!! What a brown, and for the first one of the year? Wow. I love it. This fish took the ugly on a downstream drift and fought well considering the 33 degree water temp. Awesome!
What an amazing looking fish. Butter and blue and red... WOW!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'd say it's my third prettiest brown I've every caught.
DeleteNice fish! Next time we go out lets go to your home water.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
DeleteWe can do that.
That is indeed a beautiful brown trout. That is a beautiful stream as well. You're lucky to have that for a "home stream" which I trust means is close to where you live. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
DeleteI am indeed lucky.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous looking brown . Beautiful colors!!!
Thank you,
DeleteHard to find a more pretty fish.
WOW, the color and size! That water looks to good. I'm ready to fish your home water. Great start for the year!
ReplyDeleteTie, fish, write and photo on...
It was a pretty fish, and good, but a shadow of the fish this stream used to have.
DeleteIts coming back... further up above where the big gravel bed is in a little run I caught a brown of similar size that was almost pistachio green. Give it time. -Weightforward
ReplyDeleteI think the fish that held over the drought in the deep pools are finally returning to their normal lies.
DeleteLook at the rings and spotting on that one! How did a brown trout get the spots of a Brookie? Very nice catch, well photographed, too.
ReplyDeleteYou may be surprised... I love brookies but wild browns have such a varied color pattern.
