The lake has warmed up sufficiently now, and I felt that it was necessary to fish it after my casting class was done. I have caught quite a few really nice smallmouth right off the shore in that spot and today was no exception. he first was the bigger of the two I caught, and it slammed a double deceiver in five feet of water.
The second fish went for a small woolly bugger stripped in very quickly. Another very nice, healthy smallmouth. Two great bass to start out the season on the lake. I will catch bigger ones within the coming months.
Beautiful smallies, RM. A lot of fun on the fly rod I bet.

DeleteSmallmouth are spectacular fighters on tackle that is made for bass fishing, and that includes spinning gear.
Big Smallmouths!! They do give a good battle. Hooking up with them on a fly rod just feels better.
ReplyDeleteTie, fish, write and photo on...
Thanks,
DeleteI gave up spin fishing all together three years ago, but when you set the hook and that fish starts pulling drag and jumping like a tarpon, does it really matter? I don' think it does.
Dude! My parents live abut 200 feet from where you are standing in these pictures. Wish I could get out there and do some scouting/casting myself!
ReplyDeleteIt's a cool spot for sure. One of the first places I ever fished for bass.
