It's the fish we all started with, and if we have a love for simplicity and beauty it's a fish we will keep fishing for forever. It bugs me when people bash bluegills. What did they ever do to you? No matter how many huge salmon, trout, bass, or even sail fish I catch in my life time, I hope I never loose sight of what is really important in fishing.
So when the carp aren't happy at the Bell Pond, a they were today, I will stick on a foam fly and watch bluegills smash it around until it's no more than thread on a hook and I will be content.

I agree. They are a beautiful design and have colors that shine.

ReplyDeleteYou got my attention, nothing like a huge bull bluegill putting pressure on your fly by turning side ways in the water. Got to love them!!! Thanks for sharing
They are made to fight! Very similar in shape to permit, one of the hardest fighting fish around.
DeleteI will always appreciate bluegills same as you. First fish I caught, and still remember the place where Dad took me to catch it many years ago.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I remember where I caught my first fish, you are lucky that stuck with you.
