Up until the water got to warm I was catching a bunch of fish on big bushy dry flies. There is little in fishing that is quite as purely satisfying as watching a wild brown trout drown a size 12 dry.
There were some hendricksons hatching, but not many, there were some paraleps, but not enough, and there were lots of caddis about, but not on the water. Frankly if it had been 70 degrees out the fishing would have been a lot better.

Maybe you recognize that last guy. Same lie, different fly, but another recapture.
That's astounding about the temp.
ReplyDeleteThe tidal river I fish (you know the one) is fed out of a deep reservoir and that water is cold still. Of course being on the coast, the air never got over 70 for long anyway. It is amazing how varied our climate is as you go inland. I never cease to be amazed by it. Just think how different it would be were the cold water to the north instead of the south!
Now off topic, we had an amphibian invasion last night!

It's not normal to have a 90 degree day without leaves on the trees! I'm thankful for this moderation.
DeleteYep, we had to wait longer for warm days, but it came so fast that we had a hard time adjusting. You caught some real beauties Rowan and yes the last was liking your presentation again.
ReplyDeleteTie, fish, write, conserve and photo on...
Didn't take me long, I was very comfortabe to go out in shorts and a t-shirt and wet wade finally!
